What does Green Claims Abmahn-Check do?
It reads your Shopify product copy — titles, descriptions and tags — and finds environmental claims prohibited by Directive (EU) 2024/825. Every finding shows the affected product, the exact phrase, the legal basis, and compliant replacement wording.
What does it cost?
Auditing your catalogue is free: you see how many findings there are and how many products are affected. Full access is 49 euro per month and includes the affected products, exact phrases, legal basis, replacement wording and the remediation report. Seven-day free trial, cancel monthly.
When does Directive (EU) 2024/825 apply?
From 27 September 2026. After that date, unsubstantiated environmental claims are prohibited regardless of whether they were made in good faith.
Which wording is affected?
Generic claims with no specific substantiation: climate neutral, sustainable, environmentally friendly, eco, green and similar. Offsetting-based climate neutrality claims are the highest risk — Germany's Federal Court of Justice ruled in 2024 (Katjes) that klimaneutral is misleading unless the meaning is explained in the advertising itself.
What is the actual risk?
In Germany enforcement is private. Competitors and industry associations can issue a cease-and-desist notice, typically demanding an injunction undertaking plus reimbursement of their legal costs. No regulator needs to be involved, and your product catalogue is public.
Does the app change my product copy?
Only if you explicitly allow it. By default the app has read-only access to products and cannot alter anything. If you want to apply corrections with one click you grant write access once, and you can revoke it at any time.
What data does the app access?
Product copy only: titles, descriptions and tags. The app does not request or receive access to orders, customer data or payment information.
Are new products checked automatically?
Yes. When a product is created or edited it is checked immediately. You are notified only when something changes: a product starts violating, a finding becomes more severe, or a violation is resolved.
Is this legal advice?
No. The app produces automated findings and suggested wording based on the directive and the case law decided under it. Review any text before publishing. For specific legal questions, consult a lawyer.
Does the app invent certifications or evidence?
No, and this is explicitly prevented. Where a claim would only be lawful with proof, the app asks you for the proof rather than inventing it. Every suggestion is re-checked against the same rules before you see it.
Which languages are checked?
German and English. Both are applied on every audit, so mixed-language catalogues are covered.
How do I cancel?
In Shopify under Settings, Apps and sales channels. Cancellation is monthly and you do not need to contact us.
